Blackburn Rovers are close to signing Schalke midfielder Jermaine Jones on loan until the end of the season.Rovers manager Steve Kean confirmed talks are ongoing with the 29-year-old United States international after Rovers lost 2-0 to Chelsea in London.

"We have paperwork in place and hopefully that will be finalised in the coming days. He will be a fantastic addition," Kean told BBC Sport.

Jones is out of favour at Schalke after a row with coach Felix Magath.

The German-born midfielder has a contract which runs until 2014 but was dropped after a bust-up with Magath and now looks certain to leave Germany in January.

Jones has not featured for his club side since the team's 5-0 loss against Kaiserslautern last November and has been forced to train with the reserves.

Jones, who missed all of last season with a shin injury, told German daily newspaper Bild: "The coach (Magath) doesn't include me in his plans and that is difficult for any player."

Jones earned three caps for Germany before switching to play for the United States last year.
