Souness offered full-back John Curtis in a player-plus-cash offer but Villa told the Rovers boss they want cash only.

"We made an enquiry for Alpay and we were looking at a swap deal but we were told it wasn't a possibility," Souness told the Lancashire Evening Telegraph.
