Duffer has missed the last two games with a hamstring problem which he picked up playing for the Republic of Ireland, but he’ll be fit to face the club he supported as a boy.

“He has been training the last few days,” said Souness. “Obviously that gives us a decision to make.

“It’s a nice one, I like that, because he gives us something different."

Meanwhile Celtic have been less fortunate with their injuries.

Keeper Rob Douglas and midfielder Steve Guppy are losing the race for fitness.
“Rob felt ill after training on Friday so the doctor sent him home,” said Martin O’Neill.

“On Saturday he felt better, and on Monday Steve Guppy was coming with us but he felt very ill, too.

“We’ll see how it is.”
