Duffer back in time for a Ham dinner

Berg will slot straight back into the squad set to face West Ham on Sunday.

Damien Duff is still ruled out for another week, which was confirmed this morning by Graeme Souness.

Souness, is delighted to have Berg back in the squad for a game he describes as a “massive game” for the club.

Berg missed Norway’s game against Armenia and our midweek Worthington cup win against Middlesbrough after suffering a foot injury in the defeat at Villa.

The phisio’s have been working overtime on Hemming and he has recovered quicker than was first expected.

The only problem now for Souness is that of selection between Berg, new signing Johansson and fit again Craig Short.

Speaking to the Lancashire Evening Telegraph about his injury Berg said, "It's a foot injury I'd had for a month or so and it just seemed to be getting worse and worse," said Berg.

"So I needed a rest and I needed some proper treatment for a while.

"But it's feeling better now so, hopefully, I'll be back for the weekend."

Causing more concern for Souness is Damian Duffs hamstring injury, which is compounded with Keith Gillespie also out of action with his knee injury.

Damien Johnson and Alan Mahon have both been praised by the boss for filling in during their absence but Souness feels the team has lost some width to it’s play.

Souness commented, "We won't have Damien or Keith back for the weekend," said Souness.

"That was the picture on Wednesday night and unless something dramatic happens today, then I can't see that situation changing.

"Again on Wednesday, like most of our games this season, we had lots of possession but if you haven't got players who can take people on, then you're always going to be playing in front of teams which makes it more difficult to break them down.

"Alan Mahon and Damien Johnson are what I would call more hard-working types rather than natural wingers in the true sense.

"So we've missed Duffer and Keith in that respect."
