The Rovers midfielder, who was forced to sit out the last five months of last season after breaking a kneecap in December, has confirmed that he has stepped up his rehabilitation and will be ready when the squad return to training at the beginning of July.

"Things have gone well for me over the summer," the Scotland international The Lancashire Evening Telegraph.

"It's been pretty horrible, particularly as the injury came at a time I felt I was just settling down and starting to play the way I know I can.

"To then get injured was devastating but these things happen in football and hopefully it is all behind me now.

"I had three weeks off to go on holiday then I came back and did a bit of running before going into hospital to have the wires taken out of my knee.

"So that is me ready to go now."
