Neill a bargain buy from Millwall a year ago still has two years to run on his present contract but after some impressive performances for Rovers last season, which saw him make it into the Opta stats Premiership team of the season, his agent is now seeking an improved contract from the club.

"We are talking to Blackburn about a new deal for Lucas and we are well down the road with that," Neills agent Bruce Halliday told the Lancashire Telegraph.

"We feel he deserves a new deal as he has done that well.

"Lucas was named in the Premiership team of the season by the Opta stats and we feel that is a measurement of what he has done this season.

"He was probably the best right back in the country and Rovers are keen to keep him."
