The Wales international striker netted both goals in the 2-2 draw at Fratton Park to take his goal tally to 17 for the season.

"The goals we conceded were poor but the two strikes from Craig were fantastic and I'm sure everyone enjoyed them," Hughes said after the match.

"Craig has done exceptionally well and it's fortunate that we've been able to keep him playing for sustained periods and are now reaping the rewards.

"He has missed games this season because of injury but when he is fit he is a great outlet for us.

"The first goal was a chance carved out of nothing and a great strike, and the second one was too. It was a great turn and a terrific strike.

"We got ourselves in a situation where we led twice and the negative from our point of view is that we didn't manage to preserve that lead.

"No team dominated for any sustained period and in the second half we had opportunities to add to the score but we expected Portsmouth to come back at us.

"We've got five games to go so ideally we'd have liked all three points today but we're still in the hunt and have still got a lot to play for."
