Hughes: We Deserved At Least A Point

Villa's new signing Milan Baros scored the only goal of the game in the first half at Villa Park and although Rovers were probably the weaker side in the first period Hughes felt that the second half performance warranted something from the game.

"I though the performance merited at least a point, maybe a bit more," he said after the game.

"In the first half we were slow coming out of the blocks and that was where we lost the game. Villa had the initial sharpness in that period and grabbed the vital goal.

"Our second-half performance was a big improvement. There was more endeavour and determination and we were able to peg Villa back on the defensive."

"We couldn't equalise but if we had we might have gone on to win. On another day we would have nicked a goal."
