Let the 'local glamour signings battle' commence!

Accy Stan yesterday placed themselves in the public eye after a bid to tempt David Ginola to the Crown Ground on loan until the end of the season.

Unfortunately for the Accrington side, Ginola (despite his current lack of first-team action!) has chosen not to follow fellow Everton reserve Paul Gascoigne to East Lancashire.

Everton also rejected the approach, leaving the side fourth in the Unibond Premier Division still searching for a saviour as they seek to overhaul a 20-point gap between them and first-placed Burton Albion.

National newspapers today reported that the Frenchman’s response to the approach presumably differed little from the script of the ad: "Accrington Stanley? Who are they?" The answer - a club with a seated capacity of 700 who play behind a pub near the M65 - clearly did not impress. "David will remain with us until the end of the season," confirmed an Everton spokesman.

Now when Ginola settles down to watch his country take on Scotland tomorrow night, he will know that he could have been playing against Gainsborough Trinity instead. He probably feels he is worth considerably more than that.
