Newcastle Yet To Approach Hughes

Hughes has been made the bookies favourite for the Newcastle hotseat but, despite intense speculation, no approach has been made by United.

After missing out on Portsmouth boss Harry Redknapp it is now thought that any decisions as to who will be the next Magpies boss will be made when owner Mike Ashley returns from his business trip.

"We have had no contact from Newcastle whatsoever," chairman John Williams told Sky Sports, "He is doing a great job here and we obviously want to keep him."

Hughes is currently 2/1 favourite for the job, but second and third favourites Kevin Keegan and Alan Shearer are both thought to be interested should the Toon come knocking.
