Ooijer's current contract runs out at the end of the season, but Rovers would be better off selling the player in January rather than let him go on a free transfer in the summer.
The 33-year-old is thought to be wanted by his former club PSV Eindhoven who Rovers acquired his services from in 2006.
Manager Paul Ince is keen to keep the player, but a lack of match action over the next few months would tempt Ooijer to request a transfer.
