The 24-year-old Dutchman joined up with the Tykes on Friday and it is looking likely that he will be in the squad that faces QPR on the opening day of the season.
Rigters started his career with Heerenveen before moving to Dordrecht and then NAC Breda.
He has been with Rovers since last summer but has only managed seven first team appearances.
