Robbie Fowler wants N I job

Nigel Worthington stepped down as manager after failing to reach Euro 2012 and Liverpool legend Fowler has thrown his hat into the ring.

The 36-year-old former Anfield striker is manager of Muangthong United in Thailand but is keen to return to the UK after taking coaching courses in Ulster during the summer.

Northern Ireland striker Warren Feeney played with Fowler at Cardiff and said: 'I've been speaking to Robbie and he is very keen on the Northern Ireland job.

'He's an ambitious young manager who believes he has the ability to turn around Northern Ireland's fortunes and he'll be applying.

'He's doing well in Thailand but sees the Northern Ireland job as a wonderful opportunity.'

Fowler, who was capped 26 times for England, made his name at Liverpool between 1993 and 2001 and played for Leeds and Manchester City before a second stint at Anfield.

He also had spells at Cardiff, Blackburn, North Queensland Fury and Perth Glory before his move to Thailand.

Northern Ireland have been drawn In Group F with Portugal, Russia, Israel, Azerbaijan and Luxembourg for a place at Brazil 2014.
