Senior figures at Ewood Park were caught out by fresh reports of a move for Ronaldinho, 30, which were initially sparked by a Twitter message from the club's Indian owners Venky's 24 hours earlier.

Company director Venkatesh Rao denied the story early  on Monday, saying: 'That is not true. There is no interest at all, they are justrumours.'

But last night Venky's sources claimed representatives from theiroffice in Brazil had contacted the player's agent and brother Robertode Assis, and that a formal £6.2m offer had been made to AC Milan forRonaldinho.
