Rovers in Talks With Bentley

Since Bentley's impressive full debut for England against Switzerland on Wednesday, Rovers chief Mark Hughes has expressed his desire to sort Bentley's contract out as soon as possible.

Talks have already started with the exciting midfielder, who's form has been outstanding this season, with a further meeting expected later this month.

Bentley's current deal runs until 2011 but if Rovers wish to keep hold of him it is likely they will need to improve his wages.

Hughes told the Lancashire Telegraph: "I don't think anything has moved forward this week because he's been away on international duty, but I think both parties are talking.

"We try to be fair to players who have been a big part of what we are trying to do, and we try to reflect that with contract offers - we've always done that."

Bentley is reported to be happy at Rovers, and at this early stage in his career is still developing as a player.

"You always get told if you take care of things on the pitch, then the stuff off the pitch takes care of itself," said Bentley.

"I haven't really discussed anything; I leave that down to other people.

"My first job is football, and I just want to be successful this season, so I don't care how much money someone is going to give me.

"I just want to play football to a certain level, and I honestly believe we can qualify for Europe with the players that we've got here."
