It has been reported that Villa boss Martin O'Neill has put in a £4 million bid for the defender who he wants to get in his side as Nicky Shorey failed to live up to expectations last season.
But it is highly unlikely that Rovers would be prepared to let Warnock leave the club, especially for that sort of money, with three years left on his contract the value is said to be nearer £8 million.
It was not so long ago that Warnock was being linked with a move to Tottenham, but nothing came of that either.
