Bolton and Portsmouth looked to be fighting it out at one time for his signature but now Rovers have emerged as favourites to land the Celta Vigo striker.

The 25-year-old, who it is believed would cost Rovers around £1.7 million, scored 13 goals in Spain's Segunda Liga last term. He played in France and Portugal before moving to Spain in 2008.

Rovers boss Sam Allardyce is also considering a move for French midfielder Sekou Baradji - who has joined the club on trial.

The 25-year-old is currently plying his trade for Portuguese club Naval, but he has experience of playing in England when he was signed by West Ham in 2006, but spent time on loan with Reading.

He now plies his trade in France and Portugal, but he is now hoping to earn a move back to the Premier League.

"I believe that I could do a job for the team," said Baradji.

"I am more mature now and ready for the Premier League."
