But the Scot doesn’t seem to care much, after rubbishing the competition:

“We obviously want to progress into the next round, but we aren’t kidding ourselves about the importance of the competition,” he said.

“The spotlight now falls almost totally on the Champions League and Uefa have to take some of the blame for that.

“By putting the focus onto the Champions League, they have severely relegated and downgraded the Uefa Cup.

“I don’t care what country you play in, Thursday night is not a night to be playing football on.

“From my point of view I would rather take the missus out for a good meal on a Thursday than be involved in a football match.”
