Souness: Worthington Cup- counts for nothing...

Yesterday's 2-1 victory over Spurs earned Blackburn a place in next season's UEFA Cup and the promise of rich rewards. Souness, however, is adamant that he has no wish to kick off next season's European adventure with Blackburn languishing in the First Division.

With a relegation six-pointer looming next Saturday when Rovers take on Bolton at the Reebok Stadium, Souness knows that the hard work is about to begin.

A defeat against The Trotters would leave Blackburn seven points behind their near-neighbours and deep in trouble.

Souness said: "It's absolutely vital that if this club is to progress that we are playing in the Premiership next season. The financial implications of staying up far outweigh anything and if we are to continue to bring in new players we have to remain in the Premiership."
