Sounesss slams ref

With the score standing at 2-1 in United's favour, the keeper, on in place of the injured Fabian Bartez, brought down Andy Cole in the box yet the official didn't red-card the Spaniard when he was clearly the last man.

To make matters worse the keeper then saved David Dunn's spot-kick.

"If it had happened at the other end, we would have been playing with 10 men," said an angry Souness after the 3-1 defeat.

"It's a monster decision. The referee said he was going away from goal but I didn't see it like that. It changed the game dramatically because not only would they have been playing a man down, they would also have had to use one of their outfield players in goal.

"There is no way Brad Friedel would have stayed on the pitch if he had done it. But it's nothing new. At big clubs you don't always get what you should from referees."
