"Barry Ferguson is a player I have known about for a long time, since he was 12 years old in fact, and I think he would be a very good player in the Premiership in England," said Souness.
"I know the player fancies coming to England and giving it a go down here and I'd love to think we can afford him after the players we've sold, but we'll see.
"If we can get him for the right price then I would like to think we can buy him."
