Thommo's Season Could Be Over

Thompson was forced to undergo an operation on his knee after it started to flare up after games and an appointment with world-renowned surgeon Professor Richard Steadman was made for the player earlier this week.

Rovers' chief executive John Williams told Rovers official website: "I'd like to say in surgical terms the operation has been relatively minor.

"Dr Steadman has perfected his techniques over many years and has merely tidied up bits and pieces inside David's knee. He's had a problem with some bones rubbing against each other.

"The long-term prognosis for a full recovery is very good, but the bottom line is we are going to be without David for quite some time.

"I wouldn't like to rule David out for the rest of the season entirely, he may come back an play some games towards the end of the season. He will have to undergo a strictly focused rehabilitation regime.

"However, realistically, I think we have to think of the player first and if that means he doesn't play until next season, then so be it."
