Thompson loving Ewood

Graeme Souness snapped up Thommo on a last minute deal for a bargain £1.5 million from cash-strapped Coventry.

But far from being a cheap player from an average first division club, the former Liverpool man has surprised everyone with his blistering form.

After two goals in just four starts the boss and fans alike have been calling for him to get an England call-up.

"It's been a perfect move for me. It took me back up to the North-West, the team are in Europe and they've got a brilliant squad of players. In fact, the staff and the players have made me feel so welcome, I feel like I've been with Blackburn for about two seasons, not just four weeks,” he said.

“It's turning out well now and I'm really enjoying it. Blackburn have got all the facilities and the players to make me a better player. It's been a difficult couple of years, but I'm going to make the most of my big break.

"It's a fantastic club with some fantastic players - Damien Duff, Andy Cole, Dwight Yorke, David Dunn, Matt Jansen.

"David and Matt I've played with at Under-21 level, so I know what they can do. But right through the squad they've got some exceptional players. In just the four games we've played since I arrived, I've been surprised how good we are and how well we keep possession.

"We've been unlucky really not to have taken more points from the last two games, but I've been quite pleased with my own performances."
