The Rovers manager revaled the news that Martin O'Neils side had tabled an offer for the want-away Rovers winger after the 2-1 friendly win against Macclesfield in which the England international played no part.

Bentley was left out of the squad for the friendly at Moss Rose because he has a calf injury, according to manager Paul Ince.

"He would have played here tonight if he had not been injured, but I know that in football players come and players go," Ince said.

"We have had an offer from Aston Villa, but I do not want him to go.

"But he is injured and he will have a couple of days off and I hope to take him to Germany on Wednesday for our training trip."
